Most of us do things that we’d rather not admit to doing. Either because they’re kind of gross or we’re afraid of the world knowing just how lazy we are sometimes. We cut corners here and there because they are things that won’t necessarily be noticed when we walk out the door. Personally, a lot of these corners are cut when it comes to my cosmetics. Maybe it’s not taking proper care of a piece of equipment or skipping out on moisturizer here and there. But, starting in 2017 I vow to start improving and breaking such habits. Here are some habits I’m determined to break. .
1. Not Moisturizing Daily
We all want to eliminate dry skin. There is nothing worse than going to put your foundation on and it being bumpy and wrinkly when it goes over patches of skin that maybe have been neglected by moisturizer. In order to eliminate such problems I plan to moisturize daily in 2017, leaving no inch of skin dry.
2. Neglecting my Brushes
When I’m having fun playing with a new palette or trying on bold lipstick the last thing I want to worry about it cleaning my brushes. It’s a hassle and can be downright annoying. I will admit that it is for these reasons that I probably don’t always clean my brushes as often as I should, but this changes now!
3. Leaving Makeup on Overnight
Okay. Okay. Okay. I know that sounds bad but I’m sure more people are guilty of it than you think. There are some nights when I come home and the last thing on my mind is taking the time to scrub off my makeup from the day. I often just convince myself that I’ll do it in the morning (assuming of course that it doesn’t all come off onto my pillow). This is something that I really want to improve on this year — no matter how tired I am at the end of a long day the makeup will come off.
4. Not Letting my Skin Breathe
I’m all about wearing as much makeup you want, however often you want. But, I do recognize the benefits of letting your skin breath a couple days out of the week. I feel better both physically and mentally when I give my skin time to recuperate.
5. Playing it Safe
Everyone has a couple of looks that we know work, but we can fall into a bad habit of only doing such looks. Whether it be new looks or new techniques, the only way to grow is to step outside of your comfort zone. Which is definitely something I’m going to work on this year.
6. Leaving Products at Home
Besides for lipstick, I’m so bad about keeping makeup in my bag. This sometimes puts me in sticky situations where I need to desperately touch up a part of my face but nothing to do it with. Going forward, carrying some travel sized products with me will help to avoid such catastrophes.
We all have some habits that we desperately want to break— what better time than the start of a new year?
